Geraldine is an Australian born visual artist, based in Naarm/Melbourne. She creates fictional landscapes to explore deep body memory from a feminist perspective. Using the internal landscape as a safe space for exploration, she searches for connection to the physical landscape, investigating form, nuanced colour and abstraction. She engages a design aesthetic that is influenced by a life immersed in rural Victoria and through growing up during the modern era, drawing upon conscious and unconscious memories in the process.
She studied and worked in horticulture, before undertaking an Advanced Diploma in Gestalt Therapy through Gestalt Therapy Australia in 2004. This was followed by a Master's in Counselling through Latrobe University (Melbourne) in 2010, before working for many years as a psychotherapist. Driven to deepen her creative voice, she committed to a career as a visual artist, attaining a Diploma of Visual Art in 2016 from Latrobe College of Art and Design (Melbourne) and a Master's of Fine Art in 2022 from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (Melbourne).
Recent exhibitions include Invisible at Red Gallery, Fitzroy (Melbourne, 2017), Somewhere Near Here at Art at St Francis (Melbourne, 2019) Fantasy Landscapes at Malvern Art Society (Melbourne, 2020), Counter Encounter at Studio 11/ Owen Dixon Chambers (Melbourne, 2022) and Not Nothing/ It’s Something, RMIT MFA Graduate Exhibition at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (Melbourne, 2022).
In 2019 she won the award for Best Contemporary works at the Flinders Art Show (2015), was awarded the Highly Commended prize in the Non-Traditional Painting section of the Camberwell Art Show (2019) and was shortlisted for the Clyde and Co Art Prize (2023). Her work is held in several collections in Australia and the United Kingdom.
